Pure Water Window Cleaning - 6 stories!

This was a huge job at Bathurst and Eglinton in Toronto several weeks back. We were brought on board to assist with Parker's Window Cleaning, as this was definitely a two-man project.

No lifts or ladders were necessary and the entire project was completed in one day with no inconvenience or interruption to tenants.

Curiosity Spotlight: Buckminster Fuller

As someone who is constantly fascinated by nature and "big picture thinking", Bucky's work resonated deeply. The more I read about him, the more I want to know. Fortunately, he left alot of material behind for the rest of humanity to sift through.

Historic Storm Window Cleaning Project

This home had very difficult to remove old wooden framed storm windows.

Here's a few pictures as an overview. I wanted to document this to show the variety of jobs that have come across my plate.

Old Storm Windows - Removal and Cleaning

This is one of the old historic storm windows that a recent client entrusted me to clean. The job involved climbing to the top floors and removing panes like this to clean at ground floor, then re-installing securely at height again.

Whether we realize it or not, nurturing, cultivating, and caring for the relationships we have with others is a powerful way to live.

In a practical sense, when we need something, often the place we find it is within a circle of trusted friends.

Does your network need a boost? Whatever the need, I probably know someone who can help.

It's been said we are all just 6 degrees of separation away from every other human being on the planet!

Summer in Review

On our free days, we had a chance to try a new ice cream shop that opened up near our house.

We also found a hidden trail that leads out to a fantastic lookout point on the Grand River.

How was your summer?

We managed to find matching tourist shirts for these two. Came in handy while doing our volunteer work around town. This was taken on a very warm August day - we had a few scorchers this year, didn't we?

Construction Cleaning - Acura dealership

Being fully certified and insured for WSIB, working at heights and man-lift operations means I get a chance to work on larger projects.

If I look confused or worried here, It's because I had to work around the signage company installing these huge signs on the ground behind me on a high-end car dealership in Mississauga.

I think I need to invest in a selfie stick. :)

A few weeks back, I saw this at the Superstore at Weston and 401 in Toronto.

Very interesting development.

One thing I know about signage - they don't make a sign like this unless someone has tried the activity in question.

Back to Window Cleaning!

Window Cleaning Aug 2016

After 2 years, I am now fully focusing on window cleaning.

Thanks to everyone who supported us during the time I had my mortgage broker license. I learned quite a bit. However, window cleaning was very good for our family and I am confident it will be again.

I am happy to travel anywhere in the Golden Horseshoe, including the GTA.

Here is Shea helping me setup our new pure water cleaning system.

Over the next few months, I will be explaining more about how it works and why it's a great way to have windows cleaned.

Enjoy the video of the system in action! Click "WIndow Cleaning Aug 2016" to view.

A spa - not quite in the country...

Just south of Brantford, there is a quiet little village called Mt. Pleasant. What a great place for a "spa" getaway...pictured here is the "scape" spa (I like to call it S - cape...)

They were happy to have clean windows. I appreciated the day in Mt. Pleasant!

Pictured here is also our trusty 2007 Hyundai Tucson. Never had a problem with this vehicle and it's great for window cleaning.

Summer in Review

We had a few hikes, a camping trip, and several visits to a local ice cream stand.

Glad to share more - you can email us a request connect on Instagram if you like.

Recent Window Cleaning projects

This is a 4 storey commercial building that houses high-end accountants, lawyers, and a local MPP.

To get their windows clean, we used our 47 foot carbon fibre waterfed pole and pure water delivery system.

For the final touch ups, a 65 foot articulating Skyjack boom manlift was used.

Sometimes I take this for granted, but using a combination of ground level pure water cleaning along with being licensed to operate these lifts means we have a unique, cost effective way to get buildings like this clean.

All the way up to 5 stories in many cases!

Rate Cut? Will They or Won't They?

Tomorrow at 10 am, the Bank of Canada will announce their decision on what to do about the key overnight lending rate. The overnight rate is the interest rate at which major financial institutions borrow andlend one-day (or "overnight") funds among themselves.

This decision may affect variable mortgage holders, but only if the banks choose to lower their own prime rates. Banks are not obligated to pass on a cut to us as consumers.

Be assured I will be keeping an eye on the decision and letting you know how it will affect you.

Meet Emmett James Althouse

Our second son has arrived. Emmett James surprised us two and a half weeks early on Nov 15th, 2015. Weighing in at 6 lbs 7 oz, he was obviously on his own schedule.

He's healthy and happy and gaining weight by the hour it seems!

Thanks for all the kind words that have been pouring in, we are truly grateful for the support.

Shea meets his little brother...

Shea has been a great help.

It's been great to see him adjust from being the center of attention to the helpful older brother.

Taking a Break - First Skate of the Season

This was actually taken the night before Emmett arrived - we were out and about enjoying some local public skating time.

Little did we know what was coming within the next 10 hours...

Shea Takes over at Long and McQuade

The Bloor Street Long and McQuade are really cool about letting kids try things out.

Shea was able to spend over an hour on various kits. As exciting as it is having a younger brother arrive, he enjoyed some time out of the house.

Thanks again to Dave Callender and the crew for letting us have the run of the place for the morning.

Thanks again to Toronto realtor Daniel MacQuarrie who diligently searches the MLS for unique properties as well as those listed as power of sales.

Note: These types of properties often require creative financing solutions. Pro-bono consults are available to qualified investors.

"AS IS"...Did You Know?

I'd like to address a common misconception about AS IS properties.

A realtor was told by his in-house mortgage broker when a home is listed AS IS, the banks won't touch it.

Is that categorically the case?

Fact is - It is NOT true, it usually just means that the inspection report might be required by the lender as well as an appraisal.

One exception is when there's a history of a drug lab or "grow op". In that case, one needs to know which lenders will accept these types of properties. It's also important to remember when obtaining a mortgage on these types of properties, lenders generally require a high down payment (think 30-35%) and often charge high interest rates.

Each situation like this is completely different, so it’s always advisable not to pre-judge properties.

Bottom line: With an AS-IS sale, you just need to know why it’s as-is, and proceed with a licensed, qualified, independant mortgage professional you know and trust.

Saling in Hamilton Harbour

Thanks to our friends-we had a blast sailing in the Hamilton harbour on one of the nicest days left in the year before the boats got hauled out of the water.

And yes, it was a bona-fide, ropes-and-sails sailboat.

Thanks guys!

Not surprisingly, unique properties can also require unique financing solutions. Often, mortgages on homes above 1 million are referred to as "Jumbo" mortgages.

A 15 minute phone call to get your finances in order can ensure you are prepared before putting in an offer on a home like this.

Some have all 3 characteristics. Enjoy.

Dad's Vintage Guitar Sold...

To get you up to speed, our family loves music. My dad and I have come across some cool instruments.

Pictured here is a 1968 Martin 12 string that has been in our family awhile.

Pat Sansone from the band Wilco is holding it because he just bought it.

It's the only way we'd let it go. We're glad it's in good hands.

Thanks Pat! Enjoy.

After the Goldrush (or, "Summer Rush")

Ok, now that we've got the Neil Young reference out of the way...

We were able to find a really nice family that rents a really nice cottage. The real discovery is that weekly rates are substantially lower...after the long weekend in September.

The weather was great, water stayed warm, all around we had a great time.

Dakota Tavern Bluegrass Brunch

The three amigos (Dad, Shea and yours truly) took a day off and visited the famed Dakota Tavern for their renouned "Bluegrass Brunch". All you can eat pancakes, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit...now I'm hungry all over again.

The musicians gave a great show as well.

Kids are welcomed-in fact the audience was mostly families with young kids.

If you ever get the chance to visit, I would highly recommend it.

Vintage Ukelele at Paul's Boutique

After the morning fun, we sauntered through Kensington Market to Paul's Boutique.

We didn't meet Paul, but we managed to find this stunning red ukelele.

Disclaimer: It's not truly vintage, being plastic and all, but Shea had a blast just the same.

Bluegrass Brunch at the Dakota

Here's a quick clip of what the "front of the house" (FOTH for you hardcore concert-goers) looked like at the Bluegrass Brunch at the Dakota that Saturday morning.

I have a few full songs on video - if you'd like to see more of this band in action, let me know and I'll send you the secure link.

Bank of Canada Overnight Rate Announcement

Can we talk about the elephant in the room?

That's me and Kelly in Thailand, Spring of 2008. Seven years ago! Wow.

Now how about the other elephant?

The Bank of Canada will make their next overnight lending rate announcement tomorrow at 10 A.M.

The consensus seems to be that there will be no change-because we are in a technical "recession" (thanks, low oil prices). I won't talk about Iran here, because that would delve into Mid-East politics. Not gonna even touch that...

However, in bigger news, the U.S. Federal Reserve (a.k.a. "The Fed") IS expected to raise their rate, signaling a strengthened economy south of the border.

So, to sum up, don't get used to cheap money.

Use a licensed independent professional when signing a contract to borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars to be repaid over seversal decades.

That's all :)

Jerry Douglas and the Irish traditional music connection

Bodhran? Dobro?

No, that's not some gobbledygook. Those are two of my son's favourite instruments at the moment. (I think most of you know we love music in our family...)

He's currently fascinated with:
Jerry Douglas (a world-class musician who's played with Allison Krause, Mumford and Sons, and many many others) as well as

The Chieftains - pretty much *the* defining group of players of traditional Irish music - pictured here is Kevin Conneff playing the bodhran - the traditional Irish drum. Kevin uses a stick called a "tipper" to strike the head and sides of the drum-

Shea uses a pen. Soon we'll have to find him the real deal!
