Our trip to the Grand Canyon
This past September, over the Labour day holiday weekend, we had the most wonderful trip to the Grand Canyon. It was an awesome experience to stand at the edge and take in the wonder of this creation by God
Harmeet, the kids and I hopped on a plane and flew to Phoenix to begin our grand adventure. We rented Lincoln to get us around and to the canyon. The drive was a long 4 hours but we kept ourselves entertained by playing games, counting trees (a very big number!), finding the differences between driving on Canada Highways and American highways (there’s a few), and lots of dining.
We are very thankful to one of our clients who was so generous to let us use their apartment in Scottsdale for four days. The apartment and their help planning the trip made this possible and a memorable experience for all of us.
We were afraid to close our eyes in case we missed something of the splendor of the canyon. We did our homework and read about how it was formed. A good lesson for the kids. We met people who were climbers who thought nothing of a 15-16 hour climb / hike, and others who were going to camp in the canyon overnight. We were amazed
Driving back was an interesting experience. After dark and lots of construction kept us in single lane traffic making the drive a bit challenging. Our rental car (a Lincoln) came with an automatic high-beam / low-beam that made the drive easier.
Other than the canyon, the one place that sticks out in my mind is Sedona. A city where the lights are turned after 9pm, a city of Physiotherapists, lots of palm readers, and beauty all around. The rocks, the colours, the shapes, all were new to us – simply amazing!
This was a trip that we all will remember for a very long time.
