HOSTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Many school districts offer elementary and and secondary school completion programs for international students.

For example, the Langley School District has been offering this program since 1989.

Homestay families play a crucial role in supporting international students.

If you host the student through a formal homestay program (organized by schools or educational institutions), the payments you receive are typically not considered taxable income.

The expectation is that you are providing a cultural exchange experience, including meals and family activities, and the payments are meant to offset your costs rather than generate profit.

Also, you cannot claim related expenses as deductions either.
