New Trail Discovery

My mom came for a visit, and since she’s got a real passion for long, scenic walks in nature, I decided to do something a bit out of character—I actually typed “scenic trails near me” into Google. To my surprise, several beautiful options popped up, all just five minutes from home! It’s funny how these gems can be right under our noses the whole time.

We ended up choosing the Pitt River Regional Greenway, and it truly exceeded all our expectations. The walk took us alongside the Fraser River, and it felt so invigorating to be out in the fresh air. The trail wound through serene woods filled with a chorus of birdsong—so many feathered friends making their presence known. At one point, the path led us up a dyke where we had a unique vantage point overlooking the local airport and flight training school. Our son Eden was absolutely fascinated—he would have happily stayed there all afternoon, watching the small airplanes and even water planes take off and land.

Although the trail continued on, tempting us to explore further, we decided to turn back before completing the entire route. It was almost comical—and, admittedly, a little frustrating—for my wife and me to realize how long we’ve lived here without ever knowing about this incredible trail, which, as it turns out, is actually a section of the Trans Canada Trail. Still, as they say, better late than never!
