Back to School! Yay!

 

I loved schools as a kid - even when it was a new school.  AND it was a new school quite frequently.  I attended 4 different elementary schools and had to learn to make friends quickly which has really served me in my adult life.

While I don’t necessarily think that school teaches our youngsters what they REALLY NEED to know to be successful in life, I do believe that we learn a lot through that system that goes unacknowledged and unappreciated.

Many highly successful people were never very good at traditional schooling.  If you listen to interviews with them, they will often tell you that they didn’t get good grades and were often getting in trouble for “disturbing” other students or they would get the, “Bobby is not working up to his potential” comment on their report card.

What did we learn that was useful?  We learned how to deal with all kinds of different people. We learned that every action has a consequence, good, bad or ugly.  We learned that certain people were always going to think they were smarter, just cause they were older.  And so on, and so on….

So, here’s to another school year of learning what they’re NOT trying to teach you...
