The WIllow on Wascana - One of Regina's Best

This week Shawna and I went on a date like no other... we went to the Willow on Wascana for their inaugural Dining in the Dark event. An amazingly delicious four-course fine dining experience served in absolute blackness. The funniest part was I had actually eaten over half of my second course, drooling over how incredible it was, when I realized it was a mushroom risotto... and I HATE mushrooms!!!

Events like this are just a drop in the bucket for the Willow. With their seasonally evolving menu, using only ingredients produced in Saskatchewan, I suspect this will easily become one of your favourite restaurants too.

For their full menu (always changing), and other events, check out their website.

Also, I will be giving away a $100 Willow on Wascana gift card a little further down in this newsletter... keep reading!!!

St.Patrick's Day Quiz

Interested in winning the $100 Willow on Wascana gift card I mentioned above? All you need to do is send me your answers, and you are entered to win!!!

St. Patrick's Day, is only a week away. With that in mind, it only makes sense to provide you with a quadrant of questions about St.Patricks Day and the Island of Ireland.

Send me your answers (correct or not), and you are entered to win the $100 gift card to the Willows on Wascana!

So here we go... on with the quiz:

1) What city hosted the first St.Patrick's Day parade?

2) Of Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, Bono, Pierce Brosnan, who was not born in Ireland?

3) What do leprechauns do for a living?

4) What creature did St.Patrick drive out of Ireland?

PS. If you are not from Regina, feel free to enter... if you win, I will send you out a $100 gift card from a local restaurant of your choice.

PPs. Also a quick congrats to Mike Weins and Carla Hill Groeger who each won a box of Bernard Callebau chocolates last month!

Understanding Income

Can you be qualified for a mortgage while on maternity/paternity leave? What additional documentation is required if you are self-employed? Do I need to be employed on a full-time permanent basis?

If you are on the edge of your seat, wondering what the answers to these questions might be, please check out my latest blog post: Understanding Income: The Mind of A Lender.

Swing into Spring

It was a 'no gloves' kind of day this past Tuesday and so Moses, Floyd and I decided to play in the backyard. After they schooled me in basketball (2 on 1 - I had no chance), we decided to hang out on the tree swing. They held on tight just long enough for me to snap this quick pic of my little men.

First Time Home Buyers' Tax Credit Eligibility

I have had a ton of questions about this in recent weeks, so here is the 4-1-1 on the First Time Home Buyers' Tax Credit.

Did you buy a new home in 2015?

You can claim an amount of $5,000 for the purchase of a qualifying home acquired in 2015, if both of the following apply:

- you or your spouse or common-law partner acquired a qualifying home; and
- you did not live in another home owned by you or your spouse or common-law partner in the year of acquisition or in any of the four preceding years (first-time home buyer).

Not sure if you're eligible? Check out the video here:

Steak Mole With Cilantro

Vegetarians Beware!

If you are interested in putting a little bit of POW into your next steak dinner, give this crazy awesome recipe a try. For those not familiar with mole sauce, think spicy chocolate!

We actually prepared these steaks in the frying pan (as per the recipe) because we don't have the natural gas hooked up on the BBQ... but I can hardly wait to do this one again with my steak perfectly grilled over the open flame...
