PRINTER INK SCAM ALERT

OUT of Printer Ink? What's going on? You've only printed 50 pages over the past year and now it's empty?

Not so fast HP ... YOUR BUSTED!

A couple of years ago, my colleague Rick Genovese bought an HP 8610 All in One Printer for his home office. It worked great until one day it just stopped printing from one of the cartridges. Seems like a pretty normal and benign occurrence. However ...

The message on the screen was "One or More Cartridges is Empty".

So he took the cartridge to COSTCO for refilling (FYI, Costco is an Authorized Ink Refiller AND MORE, keep reading). Here's where the plot thickens.

The nice lady at the counter weighs the cartridge and tells me it still has 50% of its ink. So how can it be empty?

She asks Rick, "Would you like me to replace the Date Chip?" Rick is stunned by the question. Seems like a strange question, so he asks, "Don't you mean refill the Cartridge?"

She explained the whole HP Date Stamp Scam and says as an Authorized Refiller for HP they can also replace the date stamp chip. Rick can now finish the ink in the Cartridge! For Free!

So now when Rick takes his inkjet cartridges into Costco for refilling, he also has them replace the date stamp chips.

Gotta love COSTCO. A full refill of an HP XL Cartridge with a new Date Stamp Chip is $12.99.

If you are not a heavy user and your Cartridges sit for a long time the date stamp may expire, Costco will replace the Date Stamp Chip for FREE.

ICBC CLAIMS-FREE DRIVING

ICBC Claim-Rated Scale Position Guide Fact Sheet

Do you know how your automobile discount works in British Columbia?

The CRS Level number is on your insurance form. If you have been driving a long time such as 20 years without an accident, it would take multiple accidents to drop you below your 43% discount.

ICBC does reward good drivers.

To get your points back, you have to drive a claims-free year to get 1 point.

DUTCH CARIBBEAN ARUBA

Steve was looking for a vacation hot spot because we had to use our WestJet Companion Anywhere voucher before it expired.

The East Coast was out due to hurricane season so South Carolina and Florida were off the list. Even Hawaii was experiencing severe weather system so that was out.

Did you know that Aruba never experiences a hurricane? It is outside of the hurricane belt. It enjoys 33C weather every day with light trade winds.

Even though it is located only 113 km off the coast from Curacao, Venezuela, the flight time is under 5 hours from Toronto. And it's in the Eastern Time Zone.

We used our Avion Points to stay at the Divi Aruba Phoenix condos

This is also a timeshare property so we were invited to one of their presentations in exchange for U$150 and complimentary lunch at a golf course restaurant. it was a pretty laid back affair in comparison to the presentations in Las Vegas.

We used the money towards a half-day snorkel adventure aboard the Palm Pleasure catamaran. We went on the morning excursion from 9am to 1pm, includes snorkel gear, breakfast, lunch and open bar (all you can drink).

This was one of the highlights of our trip besides checking out all the casinos. Remember to bring tip money for the crew.

Compass Card Fares

Reminder that all bus-only travel is a 1-Zone fare.

What I love about the Compass Card is that you can load the card up online. My mom borrowed my card and all she had to do was Tap & Ride.

Seniors get a different coloured Compass Card so be sure to order these separately online.

I keep a Compass Card on hand for travel back-up. And if it gets lost, you can always cancel the card and transfer the balance onto another card.

FUNGI FUN GUYS

2016-08-26 Four Sigmatic Super Mushroom eBook

FourSigmatic.com are these Finnish fun guys who are crazy about fungi, or mushrooms.

The world's most health beneficial mushrooms are reishi, chaga, cordyceps, lion's mane, maitake, meshima, royal agaricus, shiitake, tremella and turkey tail.

Reishi, chaga and cordyceps are not edible mushrooms. The benefits of these mushrooms have to be extracted. And how the extraction is done makes a difference.

These mushrooms have anti-aging, anti-cancer, liver regenerative and neuro-protective properties. They are the holy grail of mushrooms.

Maitake and Shiitake mushrooms are two of my all-time favourites. I was raised on this stuff. My dad would go into the mountains and harvest by hand.

My mom tried her hand at harvesting with dad but always kept coming back with the poisonous ones. Needless to say, he fired her and wouldn't let her pick them.

Oh, and it's free shipping to Canada.
