Learn The Top 10 New Features in Microsoft Word 2016

WORD 2016 Tips and Tricks

For the record let me begin by telling you that, here at Compunet, we are REALLY excited about what's under the hood in Microsoft Word 2016.

In my experience, most of us use only the features we know (and have come to love) and even at that most of us likely use less than 10% of the functionality. From my observations over the years watching people use Word, including myself, we don't embrace new features because we don't need them (or think we don't), and because it's difficult to become familiar with them when we are heads down just doing our job. Which means the new features remain unused by the vast majority of us.

In an attempt to solve that problem, starting today we will be providing a continuing series of online training.  The 1st training session is all about getting under the hood with Word 2106.

We invite you to take some time to join the on-line pre-recorded training session and become familiar with the new, incredible and cool improvements Microsoft has made to Word.

This training was recorded earlier and is available to playback as often as you like.   Click on the link at the top to access the webinar. What are you waiting for? Jump in and become a Word Wizard.

Winter In Winnipeg

As I write this, the weather in Winnipeg leaves a few things to be desired - for us west coasters anyway.  In fact, there was one day recently where the Manitoba Museum reported that Winnipeg's temperatures were actually as cold as the surface of Mars. Which means that Winnipeggers should be the core part of the 1st mission to Mars.

My picture is a few years old but it could have been taken yesterday.  My sister in law, Donna, and I are standing in the middle of the Red River not too far from the Forks. As I recall it was cold, but for those of us who have seen the good and the bad that Winnipeg has to offer, it was a good day. Little or no wind and a typically bright sunny day. Just right for January.

KidPreneurs Market Day

Over the weekend of January 13th a group of young entrepreneurs gathered for a KidPreneurs Market Day at Semiahmoo Mall in South Surrey. My granddaughter, Avery, was front and centre with a fabulous selection of self-decorated mugs. Sales were brisk during the 3-hour event - all of her mugs were snapped up and then some. No problem. Avery was well prepared with order sheets that saw everyone getting their mug. To boot Avery received orders over the internet during the show, including one from California.  Thx Ron!

Young Entrepreneurs Learning Labs is where the action is.  This is an exciting new after-school enrichment program designed to engage kids aged 7-15 in entrepreneurial thinking and foster their natural, enterprising spirit.  Click here for more information or call them at 1-800-243-0335.

Fantastic job Avery, you made my day!

Enough Already. Bank of Canada Raises Interest Rates - Again!

FYI - The Intrest Dogs are at it again. The Bank of Canada continues it's interest rate increases much to the chagrin of many Canadians who feel the bank has been squeezing them enough already. With record debt levels, raising the rates means you've got less to spend on everything and more importantly, proportionately more of your money going to service your debts than you did yesterday.

If you have any amount of "consumer debt" such as credit cards, unsecured lines of credit or other unsecured loans, it may make abundant sense to spend some time with your financial advisor to see if a refinance makes sense. In times like this, as interest rates have risen, it is possible that you could save significant dollars in interest costs by finding the best solutions to minimize the effect of these rising rates.

If you'd like to read more about the Bank of Canada's decision to again increase the rates, please click here for the full press release.
