DIY MAKEOVER TIME

Self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic doesn't mean idleness, but an opportunity for de-cluttering and productiveness.

This is a time for the ProCoach Success Factor: Clean-ups, Completions and Deletions.

This process starts with an intention and a small bite-sized action step.

My home makeover started a couple years ago when Christine O'Rourke shared her excitement about the Marie Kondo method.

I watched the YouTube videos and started with one drawer. Next thing I know, the entire closet is organized.

The next challenge was organizing my home office, a disaster zone.

Steve to the rescue. And voila!  My brand new home office has a completely fresh vibe.

This is a great time to catch up on reading, organizing recipes, getting a head start on your income tax return.

Even though CRA has delayed the due date to June 1st, it is a great excuse to proceed as if you were going to file on April 30th.

Accounting firms will have more time to work on your return because other people are going to delay, causing them more strain and stress in May.

Invest your time now while we are in self-isolation

SOCIALIZE WITH ZOOM

I have been participating in Zoom conferences as part of my Trinity Western University adult degree completion program, but it was a first for my girlfriends to initiate a Zoom girl's night.

Zoom.us is a group video conferencing platform and is FREE to use.

You can Zoom by computer, iPad, tablet, smart phone.

We had an awesome time and it is so convenient.

We usually get hung up for weeks finding a mutually convenient date and time for physical gatherings for Christmas and birthdays.

With the coronavirus pandemic, we are working remotely from home. Scheduling the next Zoom date took less than two minutes.

It's time to experiment with digital platforms in new and innovative ways.

TURN ANY CRISIS INTO AN OPPORTUNITY

A lot of folks are fixated on non-resourceful states and flooding their senses with fear during this coronavirus pandemic. The key is to focus on what we can control, such as our thoughts...  and lots of hand washing.

However, you are more resourceful than you can ever know. Unfortunately, most of us don't realize this until we encounter a crisis, something that brings out the best in us.

There is a method to respond and take action when life throws a curve ball.

The 5 steps are:

1: keep a cool head

2: think differently  (brainstorm)

3: ignore the rules

4: anticipate  (pre-mortems instead of post-mortems)

5: amor fati  (love your fate)

The key is to access your resourceful states by recalling a memory of an excellent state of mind and anchoring it in the present.

You can make this switch happen instantly, within seconds, from worry to peace.

The only thing we ultimately control is our reaction to events in our lives. Kurt Koontz, A Million Steps.

HOME MADE HAND SANITIZER

It only takes 3 ingredients to make your own hand sanitizer:

1: rubbing alcohol (aka isopropyl alcohol)

2: aloe vera gel

3: essential oil (tea tree, lavender) or lemon juice (optional)

The key is to use a 2-to-1 ratio of alcohol to gel.

Here's a recipe:

2/3 cup rubbing alcohol

1/3 cup aloe vera gel

10-drops essential oil or lemon juice

Mix with a spoon, then beat with a whisk until turns into a gel consistency.

There are wholesale suppliers of these ingredients such as Voyageur Soap & Candle in Langley.

Practicing safe hygiene is always a good habit.

SERVING CANADA VIA PROCUREMENT

Did you know that the Ministry of Public Services and Procurement is the largest government department?

The PSP is the central purchasing agent, real property manager, treasurer, accountant, pension administrator.

The PSP awards contracts to the private sector for public needs.

Currently, there is a great need for businesses who can help with shortages during the coronavirus pandemic.

They are interested in businesses that have the ability to convert their facility into producing medical supplies such as N95 rated face masks, hospital gowns, ventilators.

They are prioritizing support for the government’s response efforts, as well as critical services, including administering pay and pensions, and maintaining building safety.
